VOTING by ISME INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS for PRESIDENT ELECT and ISME BOARD

Each Individual member of ISME (who was fully paid up by 15 May 2008) may vote on the candidates standing for election as President Elect and Board Members. Voting is by secret ballot. Please take note of the following information and procedures:

1.     The Board of Directors has approved a slate of nominations received from the ISME membership.

2.     A curriculum vitae for each candidate and a personal statement can be found at this website.  Information about each candidate with photograph will be on a poster display near the ISME desk in Bologna.

3.     Voting closes at midnight Italian time (GMT + one hour) on Wednesday 23 July. Members are strongly urged to vote early.

4.     The results of the voting will be announced at the General Assembly in Bologna, scheduled for Thursday 24 July,     9.30-11.00.

VOTING by NATION

Voting on resolutions, policy issues, financial matters and all other items brought forth at the ISME General Assembly, with the exception of elections, is by NATION. Therefore, please note the following procedures:

1.     Each nation attending the conference must designate one person to serve as its VOTING DELEGATE.
This can be done in one of two ways:    a) designating the voting delegate prior to the conference
b) designating the voting delegate at the National Meeting.
Even if you are the only person from your country in attendance, you have the right to carry the vote for your country.
2.     It is the responsibility of the ISME members to familiarize themselves with the ISME Reports and the ISME Programme Policy for the Biennium 2008-2010.
3.     It is important for the members from each country to discuss the issues and give guidance to their Voting Delegate.
4.     The Voting Delegate is:     a) responsible for carrying the vote for his/her country.
b) asked to register at the ISME Desk in the registration area, where a voting card will be issued, and to sit together in the front at the General Assembly.
5.            The National Meeting will be on:         Tuesday 22nd July    14.00 - 15.00
Every effort has been made through the ISME Newsletter, this  website and ISME electronic Postcards, and will be made during the 2008 Conference, to familiarize members with the issues at hand.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR VOTERS

Voting closes at midnight Italian time (GMT + one hour) on 23 July 2008.
Please make sure you have completed your voting in time to be counted.

Voting for President-Elect
This year we vote for the person we wish to be President of ISME for the two-year period coinciding with the World Conferences from 2010-2012. That person takes office as President-Elect from July 2008 and succeeds to the Presidency in mid 2010. The President-Elect is a member of the Board and of the Executive Committee, and usually takes special responsibilities, including liaising with the ISME Commissions.

Voting for Board Members.
The ISME Board of Directors includes the President (Håkan Lundström from Sweden), the Past President (Liane Hentshcke from Brazil), the President-Elect (to be elected by you), and twelve Board Members. This year we are voting for the twelve “Members-at-Large” to form the Board for the period 2008 –2010.

Twenty nominations have been presented for these twelve positions. Five of them are members of the 2006-2008 Board who are eligible for re-election and have agreed to stand. You may vote for up to but not more than twelve of those nominated. When deciding which of the nominees to select, please consider voting for a Board that will have balance and diversity, particularly with respect to geography. The information provided about each candidate includes everything necessary to help you in making your decisions.
